Keep an eye out for mites, as they can sometimes be present in bagged substrates. If you notice mites, consider changing the substrate and thoroughly cleaning the enclosure. For burrowing snake species, provide a thicker layer of substrate to allow natural behaviors. If you are introducing a new brand or type of coconut husk substrate, consider quarantining it before using it in the main enclosure to ensure it is pest-free.
